I have not been sleeping well recently, which led to me sleeping in the propulsion class, the only class that is actually useful to pay attention in. Not good.
It's a bit awkward to have a TA that you already know, and had dinner with at Katz's! oh well ...
After all my classes, I went to Dr. Hull, my Flight Dynamics professor, to talk to him about possible research ideas. He gave me some ideas, interesting, but not exactly what I am looking for. I am walking out and he asks me to write my full name on the board. I guess he wanted to save himself the hustle of trying to say it right!!
I knew what was coming next, but didn't expect what's after that!!!
"Where are you from?" He said.
"Jordan ... middle east," I answered with a smile ...
"I was thinking Lebanon" He replied disappointed that he didn't guess it right!
"Wow .. that's pretty close," I faked a surprise, that made him smile smartly and proudly.
I could see this coming, too.
"So .. how is Iraq affecting Jordan?" he wondering curiously ...
at this point, I thought that I don't want to be dragged in this conversation. I tried to escape it, assuring that it is pretty safe, and there is pretty much nothing to be scared of there. But, no, he keeps going ...
"What is the dominant religion in Jordan?" He asked ..
"It's .. Islam," I answered with I-can't-believe-you-don't-know attitude. He laughed, with the DAH attitude.
"No, I meant .. what sects," Now he really caught me off guard. The only time I have been asked this kinna question was first sem in UT, when the nerdy TA asked me what is the difference between shites and sunnis!
The conversation went downhill from here. I couldn't escape it, and he was shooting missiles all over me. I was getting very uncomfortable trying to escape all those missiles, until I run out of breath running away from his rockets; I decided to shoot back!!
All I tried to do is make it clear that Islam got nothing to do with what's happening. However, he was shooting all over, and I don't think I did a good job.
He went into politics... into his point of view to the issue, his sadness about all the troops died there, why the troops shouldn't be pulled back ... and a lot other things.
I dunno jack about politics, and I dont care that much to know. It's a big chaotic thing. But I was upset when he started explaining the benefits of stat-church separation. How religion is an individual thing ... blah blah blah ... I don't like the guy ... even his research idea is interesting, I have to think if I wanna work with him, over and over!!
A thought hit me on my way to the bus. May be being very picky about the research topic is telling me that I aint fit for research! I am not sure exactly ...

Sleeping in Propulsion? But the material is really interesting, and Varghese is a great prof! How could you? This is what happens when you eat dinner at 11:30pm! I'll start sitting next to you from now on, and I'll poke you if I see your head nod.
