solo X-countries down ... checkride to go ...
So, I went today in my second long solo cross country. I went to Hartford,CT then New London, CT then came back to Boston.
I will post in here my the email I sent to my instructor to brief him of the flight. I will post some aerial pics later.

Brian,
Today's flight was, I think, great. However, according to the standards I may be right around the edge of pass. so before I explain my points here is a little briefing.
I took off from Hanscom about 10 to 1. My heading was supposed to be 267, and I took off from rwy 29. so I was pretty close to my heading. I just changed my heading to 267. For some reason, I totally missed my checkpoint, the towers. I really didn't see them. I was supposed to be there around 10 mins after I took off. After about 15 mins I looked around 5 o'clock and I saw a lighted tower. Supposedly it is my tower, also supposedly there should've been a small arprt a little bit infront of it. I looked around and I saw an arprt around 1 o'clock. I though I'm right in the middle. So, I headed right to the arprt. That's when providence appr came back to me to confirm my destination. I confirmed it, an explained that I'm heading that way to follow my course. They came back asking, "747 you are heading direct to Worcester arprt." Then I was, "hmm, I'm student pilot, thanks." then I knew my position. I knew where I'm most of the time, though I lost another checkpoint on the way. Ok, I asked them one more time to confirm which arprt I was flying next to. I only confirmed.
The next mess was hartford. After few calls with the tower of read back, and "747 what did you say." We finally agreed to report right downwind on 2. As you said, I saw the closed airport and they are way much closer than what they are depicted on the sectional. I landed, and the tower told me to turn left and taxi. He did gave me some instructions, that I assumed they are simply to call ground. I cleared the rwy, called ground. no body answered. Called again, and nobody answered. Switched back to tower to ask. tower switched me back to ground, just to realise that ground did call me when I called tower. Anyways, after a few back and forth calls, we agreed to taxi somewhere. Then he came back to tell me who to contact to park.
Hartford to New London was pretty nice, smooth, I went by all my check points. New London arprt is AWESOME. Ok, also I met one of Pfizer's managers. I think one of the executive. He is an old pilot with over 19000 hrs. He let me in his helicopter, we talked for a little bit. Then I headed back. As I told you I was off-course on the way back, but I definitely was not lost. I knew were I am, by the time the tower was done with me, I was way off my course it will be awkward to fly back to it.
It's nice. Why I think it was great? I felt like a pilot. I felt in control. I got confused but didn't loose control, or blacked out. (I mean like what happened in Fitchburg the other day, when I dove into the ground.) It was amazing. I had the plane more leveled when I just looked out. Ok ... it was great.
Appreciate it ...
